The German SRC: what you need to know

The SRC (Short Range Certificate, in German “Beschränkt Gültiges Funkbetriebszeugnis”) entitles you to operate a VHF marine radio with DSC on recreational boats. The theory test consists of 24 questions from the official catalogue of 180 questions, and you pass with at least 19 correct answers. In addition, the exam includes English maritime radio texts and a practical test on a radio set.

On this page all questions are shown in English first; tick “German translation” to see the original German wording underneath. All parts of the German exam are conducted in German, so switch the German translation on as soon as you know the content. If you also want to use your radio on German inland waterways, the UBI follows as a supplementary exam.

The English texts are an unofficial translation for learning purposes. Only the German original published by the authorities is binding. More bilingual catalogues: English home · glossary of German terms.
